TweetFacebookIf you listen to Benji Marshall, halfback Luke Brooks is ready for Origin on the strength of his form in six games for the Wests Tigers this season.

And he is not the only one spruiking it.

Mitchell Pearce, however, might have other ideas.

The Knights’ NSWincumbent playmaker comes up against a rival halfback being touted as a bolter for the NSW job when Newcastle takes on the Wests Tigers in Tamworth on Saturday.

And while Origin will be lucky tobe registering on Pearce’s radar this weekend withthe two competition points paramount,a clearpoints decision over Brooks in their individual battle won’t hurt his own representative aspirations.

But Knights coach Nathan Brown played down their individual battle.

“Pearcey hasn’t really spoken about Origin to be honest andI would have thought he will just go about his business,” Brown said.

“He’s a good experienced player and he understands his role in our team is far more important than any individual competition against any one player.

“I would think he’ll just be focused on what his job is for us and he’s been doing that really well. The rewards come off the back of how good your team goes and that is probably where Luke Brooks is getting some of his recognition.

“It’s good for the Tigers and good for Luke Brooks that people like Benji are starting to talk about him in those terms.

“They wouldn’t be doing it if he wasn’t playing well. From our point of view, we are going to need to do a good job on him and if we don’t, the proof is in what he’s been doing which has been very good.”

Knights winger Shaun Kenny-Dowall says his side needs to show the Tigers enormous respect in Tamworth.

“They have shown up every week, they have competed really hard, they have been completing their sets and their attitude is a winning one,”he said.

“It’s all credit to them and something we have looked at really closely this week. Anything less than that from us this weekend and we won’t get the job done against them.”
